The Nenana Volunteer Fire/EMS Department is a
501(c)(4) nonprofit and is comprised of a variety of citizen workers; from postal workers, teachers, pastors and the retired all coming together for a common goal of helping and bettering their community. All members of the NVFD have dedicated their personal time to train and respond to emergencies. This team has assembled to make up the NVFD in its dynamic capacity and each member is held to a high standard.

The Nenana Fire Department was founded in 1913 by the Alaska Railroad when Nenana was the end of the highway north from Anchorage. Passengers and Freight traveling further into the interior had to go by train or river boat from Nenana.
As time went on the Alaska Highway was completed and travelers had the ability to drive from Anchorage to Fairbanks. The Alaska Railroad eventually relinquished the Fire Department to the City of Nenana and the rest is history....
